Herculaneum's Fan by Verdonna (c) 2011

Herculaneum's Fan

My reinterpretation of a Roman mosaic found in the ruins of Herculaneum at the House of Neptune and Amphitrite.

I changed the original shell into a fan and made scale and detail changes as well.

Hi Brow by Verdonna (c) 2011

Hi Brow

The conceptual design of this mosaic was based on the shape of an eyebrow, then stylized. The color scheme came about by looking at value only, which is just shades of gray. Then specific colors that matched the selected shades of gray were assigned.

Hi Brow is made of several different kinds of glass tile to add texture, depth and interest.

Asian Moon by Verdonna (c) 2011

Asian Moon

The art glass cabochon “Moon” reminds me of an ancient oriental painting with its mysterious, misty quality and subtle colors. The "Moon" is surrounded by a sea of rich reds and just a touch of black glass tesserae. Black grout and 1" black frame complete the Asian theme.

Oeste del Sur by Verdonna (c) 2011

Oeste del Sur

Oeste del Sur is Spanish for “south west.” The American Southwest has it's own distinct color palette, primarily influenced by the colors of the sky. As a resident of this region, I designed this piece to reflect the moments just after sunset, when the sky turns pale blue and peach. In the next moment, it mixes with bolder oranges, darker blues and warm golds.

Variety of glass tile, ball chain, millefiori, gold plated focal.

Golden Eye by Verdonna (c) 2011

Golden Eye

The Golden Eye is forever watchful.

A gold mirror tile is surrounded by a geometric form comprised of a variety of golden Tibetan metal beads. All of this gold color is contrasted with a background of pure black Murano-style tesserae. This mosaic is groutless with gold foil edging.
